Mission Estancia School named National Blue Ribbon School

October, 2007 - Mission Estancia School becomes fourth school in the Encinitas Union School Distict to receive the nation's highest honor of National Blue Ribbon School of Excellence.

National Blue Ribbon Schools of Excellence

Three EUSD schools have captured the National Blue Ribbon Schools of Excellence Award, presented by the United States Department of Education. The award is based upon the following criteria.
--strong leadership
-- a clear vision and sense of mission that is shared by all connected with the school
-- high quality teaching
-- challenging and up-to-date curriculum, policies and practices that ensure a safe environment conducive to learning
-- a solid commitment to parental involvement
-- evidence that the school helps all students achieve high standards
The national award selection process involves an extensive written nomination, selection by a state blue ribbon committee and qualification for a site visit from a national blue ribbon panel of educators.
The blue ribbon title is presented to elementary and secondary schools across the nation on a rotating, bi-annual basis. For more information, visit the U.S. Department of Education's No Child Left Behind website.

California Distinguished Schools

The California Distinguished School Recognition Program recognizes the priorities of the State Board of Education and the State Superintendent of Public Instruction. The program identifies and honors the state's most exemplary and inspiring public schools with the California Distinguished School Award. The selection criteria for the recognition include the following:
  • High academic expectations for all students based on California’s state-adopted standards and performance levels
  • Visionary and collaborative school leadership committed to excellence and high expectations for all students
  • Regular and systematic monitoring of student progress by using a variety of assessment techniques
  • Strong core curriculum in all required subject areas
  • State Board-adopted and standards-aligned textbooks and core curriculum materials provided to all students
  • Varied teaching strategies that provide challenging learning experiences for all students
  • Strong library media services and appropriate technology that supports learning activities
  • Academically competent and caring teachers, and strong professional development that is aligned to standards-based instructional materials and evaluated based upon student progress
  • Multiple learning support services for students who are learning the English language, who have physical or learning disabilities, and who have not yet reached proficiency
  • Support for student learning through family involvement and partnerships with business and community groups
  • Safe school culture that supports the inclusion of all students and promotes positive character traits, such as caring, citizenship, fairness, respect, responsibility, and trustworthiness; and proactive policies and programs that prevent bullying
  • Programs that foster wellness and healthy behaviors in all students
  • Well-maintained learning environment that communicates the importance of education in our society

Golden Bell Awards

The Golden Bell Awards program recognizes exemplary programs in 15 major categories which focus on curriculum and instruction. The program also recognizes the importance of related programs which are essential to support teaching and learning. Judging takes place in each of the following program categories:

Salute to Stars

Each year, the Encinitas Union School District recognizes and honors several groups of individuals who are committed to excellence and the education of all children in EUSD. These individuals invest huindreds oh hour each year to ensure the children in our schools receive the very best opportunties to grow and learn. Groups honorede include the Encinitas Educational Foundation, PTA Presidents, School Site Council Presidents, Strategic Planning Committee, Futuring Committee, Legislative Action Committee, Teachers of the Year, Classified Employees of the Year, and Administrators of the Year.
