Welcome back to another exciting school year in
Encinitas. Our goal is to engage all students by connecting learners
through purpose, passion, and empowerment. Our expectations for our
students are quite high. Student performance measures on the most recent
California standards assessment (called the Academic Performance Index or API)
gave our district a rating of 913, which places us among the highest achieving
school districts in the state. In addition, we believe that our students
also need to be proficient in global competencies, which include communication,
collaboration, critical thinking, and creative thinking. Finally, we also
feel that life skills such as responsibility and trustworthiness are important
and necessary parts of our curriculum.
Thanks to the passage of Proposition P the District has fully
implemented the One-to-One Digital Learning Program in grades 3-6 with
increased access for grades K-2. The
positive response from both teachers and students has been tremendous. Teachers
are now able to further individualize learning for all students. All classrooms
now have new teacher computer stations, projectors, sound systems, printers,
and document cameras. The District has also implemented MyOn
Reading, an on-line program for recreational reading. In the month of September close to 14,000
books were read by students districtwide.
Our continued focus on project based learning is proving to be a success
with students having the experience of working in a collaborative setting.
Proposition P has also provided for many major facility improvements in
the District; Mission Estancia has four new classrooms and a new media center,
all schools have had safety upgrades, the District’s green initiative is still
underway with hand dryers being installed districtwide, recycling carts for
lunch areas and recycled water for landscaping at several sites. The District will be focusing on installation
of solar tubes and the modernization of Park Dale Lane should be complete by
the beginning of the 2013-2014 school year.
Our
District has been very fortunate to receive such a high level of support from
our parents, local businesses, and other community members. We recognize
that without your support, we would not be able to deliver a world
class-learning environment for our students. If you are interested in
learning more about how you might participate in becoming a volunteer or
corporate partner of the District, please contact any of our schools or our District
office. Thanks again and let’s have a wonderful 2012-2013 school year!
Sincerely,

Timothy Baird Ed.D.
